A Funny Thing
Happened on the Way to Getting Published
This one happened when I was still written the initial
drafts.
After I was inspired by the driver’s story about the real
treasure hunt, I spent almost a week in research. I read many articles that spoke
about different ways of treasure hunting. I joined some online groups that are
into real time treasure hunting and started posting questions there.
One such group required a Facebook authentication. I did it
as I was genuinely looking for answers to the questions I had during my
research. I had posted so many questions, probing from different angles that I
myself had lost a track of them. In such a mess, I think there was one that
really pissed someone off. One fine day, I got an email from the admin of the
group. It was particularly addressed to me and it said:
“With the kind of
questions, you have posted on the group, we assume you’ve already hit a trove
and are looking for ways to consolidate it. Let me be specifically clear here
that we are an online adventure community and not a crime Syndicate which helps
you in bending the federal laws and siphoning the stash for no good.
Kindly refrain from
posting such questions in the group which may make our motives seem dubious.”
As soon as I read this email, I laughed my guts out…then, immediately
replied back stating that I am an author who is trying to write a unique
treasure story. My questions are nothing but imaginations from a creative mind.
I never got a reply, but after this, I unregistered from all
the forums and groups.
The story does not end here.
The Reply had a very special word ‘Syndicate’ that stayed
with me and is in the title of the book
“The Treasure Syndicate”
For the mortal world, I pretend to be a Software Engineer who works hard (or hardly?) in the hours of a day. I am the guy next door, a hard core Harry Potter fan and a movie buff. I literally ‘live’ every movie, I have strong opinions about its content and I hate it when a movie based on an interesting concept is messed up for the sake of commercial value. I enjoy watching cartoon shows (doremon, dora and Choota Bheem) with my son. I never get bored of listen to the endless chatter of my wife. When I’m not writing, I make toys for children.
But beyond the boundaries of this ‘cholesterol rich’ coil, I am a rider of rapturous thoughts. I am a thinker, a philosopher, a seeker, a story-teller, a writer, a wanderer and every other thing that a thought can be. At times some of these figments fire out of my thoughtful bowl and command me to write, muse, create, recreate, destroy…EXPRESS!
Who Am I? I have been asking this question to myself since 33 years, and I got a different answer always. Sometimes I get confused and think, am I asking the right question to seek the correct answer? or may be that am I missing the whole fantastic universal drama around me while I am busy finding an answer to an irrelevant question?
Does the answer even matter?
